Perfect Patchouli

About Patchouli:

Considered “the scent of the sixties,” Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) essential oil is derived from the leaves of the patchouli plant, originating from Southeast Asia and widely cultivated in tropical countries including Indonesia, India, and Malaysia.

Patchouli has a unique scent with warm, musky, sweet, woody, and spicy notes, and is often used in perfumes and incense.  Patchouli oil ages well, causing its color to darken and its scent to deepen.

History:

Patchouli became well known in the 1960s as a favorite, natural perfume among counter-culture people, but has also been used for centuries in Asia.  Indian fabrics such as fine silks were scented with Patchouli for protection from insects.  Due to its high value, European traders would exchange one pound of gold for one pound of Patchouli.

It is also believed that Pharaoh Tutankhamun, or King Tut, was buried with ten gallons of Patchouli oil inside his tomb.

Perfectly Beneficial:

Patchouli uses are abundant and range from odorous to cosmetic.  Beneficial for skin care applications and as a natural deodorant, Patchouli is also excellent for calming the nervous system, balancing the mind, and harmonizing mood.

Patchouli is used in Naturally Groovy Oils Cool Vibes Mood Blend.
