Sacredness of Sandalwood

Meet Sandalwood:

Sandalwood oil (Santalum album) comes from the roots and woods of the East Indian Sandalwood tree and has been in use for over 2,000 years.  Native to India, Sandalwood was carried to Egypt, Rome, and Greece by caravans.  Sandalwood oil was used by the Egyptians for embalming and in bathing rituals of the Hindu Gods.

Today, the use of Sandalwood is popular in soaps, perfumes, and cosmetics, due to its soft, sweet, woodsy, and balsamic scent.  Sandalwood is also used in both Chinese medicine and Ayurvedic medicine for its beneficial healing properties.

Interesting Facts:

Sandalwood trees must mature for at least ten years before oil can be produced.  The trees are also hemiparasitic, which means that while Sandalwood trees photosynthesize on their own, they acquire some of their nutrients from the roots of other living plants.

Sacred Scent:

Sandalwood has many benefits, including medicinal and skincare uses, and is often used in religious ceremonies and spiritual practices.  It is also used by Buddhists for its grounding properties.  Beneficial in promoting openness, quieting the mind, and maintaining focus, Sandalwood is ideal for meditation.

Sandalwood is used in Naturally Groovy Oils Tibetan Trance Wellness Blend.
